Reawakening a passion

Overall, college has been wonderful for me. I have loved all the people I have met, all the experiences I have had, and even a vast majority of the classes that I have taken.

One deleterious thing about college, though? It sucks up all your time.

I'm a double major in the business school, so when I'm in the midst of the semester, my life revolves around projects, tests, and internships. As a result, I tend to forget to give myself some time to just do what I love and be happy.

My photography has definitely suffered quite a bit because of it.

Every year, I print new photos to put in the dozens of frames that adorn the walls of my room. Last summer, I realized with disdain that I had very few new images to choose from to print - I was limited to just the few snapshots I had taken during my trip to Seattle.

This summer, I vowed to change that. I faltered a bit at the beginning (because I was - and to a certain point still am - dealing with some things), but now that I've less than a month of summer left, I'm determined to make it count. (Better late than never!)

So Kylie and I went out and had an impromptu photoshoot last night. It was absolutely brilliant and it made me so happy beyond words. It reminded me that a camera in my hands and a model in front of me really put me in my element - something that I had been missing for so long.

So take it from me, y'all. Don't put your passions on the backburner - always make a little bit of time for them. Because when you put your passions on the backburner, a little piece of your soul goes there with them.

Enjoy these shots of Kylie from last night!

Fashion Fridays

Hey y'all!

I actually wore this lovely get-up last Friday when I went to see that wonderful Color! exhibition that I mentioned in my last "Things for Happiness" post. However, by the time I got home, the light was gone so I couldn't photograph it... Instead, I've saved it for y'all for this week!

I'm a stickler for a simple, muted color palate, and black is always a good choice to wear - anytime.

Similar items: denim shirt ; skirt ; tank top ; boots ; necklace ; earrings ; belt

Texas has been teasing me with little glimpses of what real fall temperatures ought to feel like... I wish it would just stay consistently cool so that I can finally live in my sweaters! I'm getting tired of the muggy semi-warmth and the gloomy, overcast days..

What do y'all think of this week's look? Let me know in the comments!

Fashion Fridays

I've been slacking hardcore on these Fashion Friday posts... But that doesn't matter because this one is brand-new!

This week has been marked with the glorious return of chilly fall weather... I am in complete and utter love! There is nothing that makes me happier than a crisp autumnal breeze and the sharp smell of fall in the air... It's brilliant!

To celebrate a forecast high in the 60s, I donned this spiffy little get-up on Wednesday!

There's nothing I love more than a nice sweater and my trusty pair of riding boots!

Fashion Friday: Cute & Comfy Casual

Okay so if any of y'all know me in person, you'll know that I love clothing and fashion. I dress up for class every single day (and by "dress up" I mean I haven't gotten to the point (...yet) where I care so little that I just stick to my sorority shirts and exercise shorts), and I make an effort to look good. Some people don't understand why - I'm a college junior, not a freshman; I shouldn't have anyone to impress, and why do I care so much?

Well, I like looking good. Not for anyone in particular - simply for myself. I like the confidence I get when I walk out of my apartment dressed in something simple that is both comfortable and makes me feel put-together. It doesn't have to be anything super complicated either. Lately, I've been pairing comfy shorts with soft exercise tanks or light tees in various colors and then adding pops of detail with my jewelry and other little accessories.

For my internship, however, I have to mix it up a little bit. The office gets very cold when the AC turns on, and longer bottoms are a must. Luckily, the culture at my internship is very casual, so I can wear just about whatever I want (within reason, of course). Today I'll be sharing one of the outfits that I threw together for my internship that is both put-together and comfortable (a win-win situation, if you ask me)!

Similar items: leggings ; sandals ; t-shirt ; necklaces

I am literally obsessed with these leggings. Ob. Sessed. Bought them at Marshall's earlier this summer and have only had a few opportunities to wear them... I can't wait until the temperatures start dropping and I can wear them to class! The print on them is so fun, and really adds a nice pop to any outfit. The necklaces may be familiar - I featured them in last week's jumbo "Things for Happiness" post. They're definitely becoming my favorite neck baubles. They're so simple and they complement each other so well!

Likewise, that t-shirt is one of my most beloved things in my closet right now... It's so lightweight and soft, and I love how it loosely hangs on my body. It's a straight-up comfort shirt and I adore it!

Oh, and the best part of this outfit? All together, it cost me about $44. :)

What I'm Wearing

Perfect photoshoot attire for last night - boots, shorts, and my favorite denim vest. That pin was a chance find at the local vintage clothing store. I loved that it said "Guest Photographer," so of course I had to snatch it up. Cost me $2! :)
