Sometimes, people ask me what I do for fun. Well, I drink tea, eat a light lunch, go to the flea market, go antiquing, and have coffee with my best friend. Yeah, I'm kind of an old woman.
Is it so wrong that I take joy in pretty, tasty food and historical objects that have seen a lot in their days? I love the flea market - there is always an endless array of aesthetically interesting objects that boast impressive histories and (figurative) memories. In addition, the people, in a sense, are their own kinds of historical objects - lots of interesting characters that retell funny and fascinating stories.
And, from time to time, you can really find a diamond in the rough at one of the booths that line the expo center. My room is filled with fun little knick-knacks that I pick up at antique stores and flea markets alike. I think there's just something so fascinating about a historical object - plus, I have an acquired taste for older design. It just makes me happy.
So yeah, maybe my affinity for hot drinks, routine weekends, and old objects makes me an old woman - but at least I embrace it! ;)
Oh, and if you're waiting for my "Things for Happiness" post for this week - don't fret! It will make its appearance tomorrow. I've been incredibly busy with family in town and work this week, but tomorrow is my last day at work, so I'll have a lot more free time to finish that post up!
Ever find something interesting at a flea market or an antique store? What's your best diamond in the rough? Let me know in the comments!
